Kalkaji
Established in 1947, Shri Laxmi Narayan Mandir, E Block, Kalkaji, holds the special place a temple occupies in Indian Hindu life — a place where people go to worship and to give thanks to a watching power for its grace and blessings. There was a time when education, too, was imparted in temples, though it was wholly religious in nature. Run by a sixteen-member committee, the temple offers a dispensary and hall as its main facilities. For many devotees, visiting the temple is part of their daily routine — an occasion to take in every corner of the mandir alongside other striking images of the deities and the surrounding neighbourhood. Devotees touch each image with their hands, which they then touch to their own eyes, before circling the images a few times; almost everyone rings the bells hanging from the ceiling on the way. Many sit on mats to pray. Shri Laxmi Narayan Mandir is truly a place where one can find a few moments of peace and contentment. People come to the temple to pray to God for their wishes to be fulfilled — it is a place where a person begins to truly believe that they are mortal, and that they must do some good deeds to earn a place at the feet of the Almighty.
